Vortex Vends was founded in 2016 by Marcus Chen, a former software engineer who got tired of jammed snack machines and stale candy bars at his Austin co-working space. He saw an opportunity to bring IoT technology and real customer care to an industry that hadn't changed in decades.

When stock dips below a threshold, our system automatically generates a restocking route for the next business day. Our route drivers visit each location 1–3 times per week depending on volume. All maintenance — from coin mechanism repairs to touchscreen recalibration — is included in your service agreement at no extra charge. We also offer a 4-hour emergency response window for critical issues.
What's the difference between a smart vending machine and a micro-market? +
A smart vending machine is a single enclosed unit ideal for locations with 30–150 people. Products are dispensed through a traditional coil or elevator system, but with modern touchscreen payment. A micro-market is an open self-service retail space — think a miniature convenience store — with shelving, coolers, and a self-checkout kiosk. Micro-markets suit larger facilities (150+ employees) and offer far more product variety including fresh sandwiches, salads, and beverages. Both are fully managed by Vortex Vends.
Is there a minimum commitment or long-term contract? +
We offer flexible terms. Standard smart vending placements start with a 12-month agreement, but we also offer month-to-month options with a small setup fee. Micro-markets typically require a 24-month commitment given the build-out investment. We're happy to tailor terms based on your needs — many clients start with a single machine trial before expanding.
What payment methods do your machines accept? +
All Vortex Vends machines accept credit and debit cards (Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover), Apple Pay, Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and traditional cash. Our micro-market kiosks additionally support employee badge integration and mobile wallet pre-loading for corporate-subsidized purchases.
Do you serve areas outside of Austin? +
Absolutely. While our headquarters is in Austin, we operate route networks across the entire Texas Triangle — including Dallas-Fort Worth, Houston, San Antonio, and every major city in between.
